| Heritage Village, sponsored by Jefferson Bank,
presents the historical and natural heritage of our community, state,
and country. This year, Heritage Village is located within the
beautiful, new Lewis and Clark Trailhead Plaza, located at the corner of
Capitol Avenue and Jefferson Street. To visit this monument alone is an
amazing treat. Dedicated on June 4, the plaza includes bigger-than-life
bronze statues of Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, York
(Clark’s man-servant), George Druillard (French-Canadian-Shawnee hunter
and interpreter) and Seaman (Lewis’ Newfoundland dog). Besides these
main characters, items such as a journal, telescope, guns and hats are
portrayed within the monument. The sculpture commemorates the date of
June 4, 1804 when the Corps of Discovery encamped in the area, which
eventually became the state capitol. Heritage
Village will feature historical re-enactors, arts & craft
demonstrations, and much more. Come see a model of the USS Jefferson
City (SSN759) Submarine and learn about its history. There will be
displays on everything from Lewis & Clark to Missouri National Guard
contributions as well as re-enactors from the Civil War and World War
II. Self-guided tours will also be available of the Missouri State
Capitol, Lohman Building, & Union Hotel/Rozier Gallery. |
