Lin Appling to Serve as Master of Ceremonies at 2008 Opening Ceremony; Boogie Woogie Babes to Perform

The Mid-America Wireless Opening Ceremony will begin at 7:30 pm on the Capitol Main Stage with prelude music at 7 pm by the Champlin Rebels Marching Band. The Opening Ceremony is sure to be one of the highlights of this year’s festival with the Jefferson City Veteran’s Council’s traditional laying of the wreath ceremony with representatives from four branches of the military, presentation of the colors and ceremonial firing by VFW Post 1003, and much more.

This year’s Master of Ceremonies is Lin Appling. Appling, a retired Lieutenant Colonel, has served in some of the most elite units of the Army and earned the US Army Legion of Merit for meritorious service and the Bronze Star Medal in Vietnam.

Appling has since served the Missouri State Government in several administrative positions while being involved in his community and publishing his first book titled, “Be Somebody.”  He truly feels that it is his mission to build passion within young people, adults, the community and his country.

Appling will be joined by 25-35 students ages 3-10 from the KIM School (Kids in Montessori, Inc) as they say the Pledge of Allegiance followed by “It’s a Grand Ole Flag,” and “I’m a Yanky Doodle Dandy.” Afterward, for your entertainment pleasure, the “BOOGIE WOOGIE BABES” will take the stage. This trio was created to provide special “Andrews Sisters-like” entertainment for the observance of the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.  Since then, the “BABES” have performed music from the 1940s at hundreds of events for groups and organizations.
